Hey Yuri,

I studied with Sal Mosca from 84 until 96. I learned Prez's LBG solo inside and out. I meticulously copped all the pitches and rhythms- even his "comping" under Buck Clayton's solo-(extremely swinging). Sal was a formidable task master and it took weeks before Sal was satisfied with my integration of the feeling and the sound behind the solo. Years later as I work with my students on singing seminal solos I realize that copping that "feeling" is what will keep the spirit of jazz alive in the coming decades. Thank you for blogging on LBG.
