Fundamentals of Music

  • Staff, Clefs, Notes, and Rests
  • Pitch
  • Fundamentals. The alphabet of music. The building blocks of organized sound. The wax-on, wax-off that you dance to. Et cetera.

The concepts that you’ll learn in this section will go through notes, staffs+clefs, rests, scales, and basic chords, which can be thought of as letters, grammar, inflections, sentence structure, and essay writing…sorta. If none of those musical terms rang any bells, you’re in the right place. If you think you’re a pro, you’ll probably be entertained by our silly writing, at the very least.

These articles will give you access to a whole world if you put in some work and time. Pretty cool promise, right? However, when we mean some work and time, we mean work and time. If you have no musical experience or training with written notation, you’ll probably have to read the articles a couple times, look at sheet music and try to understand what’s going on, and do some exercises to really get it and become “fluent”. DON’T GET DISSUADED, THOUGH. If you look at education as enriching and fun, it’ll be enriching and fun. We’ll point you in the right direction, provide the guidance, and you just steam ahead. Go gettum!
